the super coda at small beast monday 6/4

Tonight at The Delancey 168 Delancey st. We revel in the intelligence and merriment these individuals make with noise and joy. I am so grateful the following musicians and performers are here all at once to so generously share their work with us. There are donations, there are two for one drinks, sets every 45 minutes starting on 8:30. Would love to see you there.

in order of appearance:

Jessica Pavone – String instrumentalist, Jessica Pavone has led her own bands; Army of Strangers and The Pavones, has performed in ensembles led by Anthony Braxton, Jason Cady, Jeremiah Cymerman, Matana Roberts, Aaron Siegel, Henry Threadgill, and Matthew Welch, as well as such collective groups as the Mary Halvorson/Jessica Pavone Duo, Normal Love, and The Thirteenth Assembly.
Jessica’s music has been released by the Tzadik, Thirsty Ear, Skirl and Porter record labels.

Jason Ajemian w/Jason Nazary – Jason Ajemian has acquired a high profile in the improvised music scene over the years, performing with Jeff Parker weekly for five years in Chicago, Rob Mazurek’s Mandarin Movie, Exploding Star Orchestra, and the Chicago Underground Trio, Ken Vandermark’s Crisis Ensemble and currently with Marc Ribot’s Sun Ship and Matana Robert’s CoinCoin. Ajemian’s curiosity has ranged far and wide—he’s just as comfortable in the hushed, folksy setting of Born Heller, his duo with Josephine Foster, as he is in the breath-processed arrangements of his large ensemble Who Cares How Long You Sink. Given such a variety of musical interest, a detour like “From Beyond,” Ajemian’s backwards version of Back Sabbath’s “Into the Void” for chamber ensemble, begins to seem like an obvious stop on this bassist’s journey from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to Chicago and his current home in New York City.

Currently, he plays guitar, glockenspiel, melodica and percussion in the collaborative instrumental rock ensemble Hannibal Montana and leads Monsoon In Bloom, an experimental modern fusion band for which he composes.
